Change picas to inches in Adobe InDesign

Adobe InDesign's default unit of measure is picas. Many designers would rather work in a more familiar form of measure, such as inches or millimeters. This default setting is used when creating a new file and as the default ruler in InDesign. Changing the setting from picas to inches is a very simple task.

Click "Edit" in the navigation menu at the top of InDesign.
Select "Preferences" in the drop-down menu.
Select "General" from this menu.
Now that you are here, notice all of the settings that can be changed from a relatively simple interface. Right now all we are concerned with is "Units & Increments", so click it on the left.
Now you can go ahead and select the units under the "Ruler Units" group. The only ones we need to change are "Horizontal" and "Vertical". Currently they are both set to Picas. Change them to whatever unit type you choose and click "OK".
